About the event
Saturday Night Pasta is not just about the pasta making. It’s about the ritual – the kneading to the sultry sounds of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, the wine that’s drunk, the conversation that flows, the imperfect pasta that’s rolled, and finally, the dinner that’s been created just for you. Saturday Night Pasta is self-care for the modern-day food lover.
Myffy Rigby at The Sydney Morning Herald summarised it so well - “what equips her to write (teach) about one of the oldest cuisines on the planet? She’d be the first to tell you “Nothing”. But she’ll also be the first person to tell you, “That’s not the point”. Saturday Night Pasta is not about creating perfect pasta. It’s about the ability to harness the roaring rapids inside your head and turn them into a project fuelled by flour, eggs and water”.
A Saturday Night Pasta class is not a formal experience. It’s not about me standing in front of you demonstrating how to roll the perfect tortellini, hell, I can’t even roll the perfect tortellini. It’s about connecting with people and having fun. I like to create an experience akin to sitting around a table rolling pasta together – just like family and friends do in Italy. There would be laughing, talking over the top of each other, arguments, deep conversations. I want us to try and achieve that type of chaos, albeit a little bit more controlled. We need to make dinner after all.
In this class, we will be making three different pasta shapes all from a semolina dough. We will be kneading the dough (the stress releasing part) then rolling out cavatelli, maccheroni ai descita and busiate. You'll then settle on your favourite shape and keep rollin' for dinner!
As part of the class you'll recieve a Saturday Night Pasta starter kit in the mail which includes some beautiful semolina flour, a base Saturday Night Pasta sauce, three suggested recipes using your base sauce (Italian sausages! Prawns! Cavolo Nero! You choose!), an SNP booklet with notes, and a wooden skewer (for pasta rolling).
In line with the general mood of SNP, the class will be kept intimate. Ticket price is per screen. No equipment or pre-prep needed.
Look forward to rollin' with you x
